Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, has soared past the $1 billion mark at the global box office just three weeks after its theatrical debut. This fantasy action drama, which follows Nolan’s acclaimed run with films like Oppenheimer, is now his third movie to achieve this milestone, joining The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises in the billion-dollar club.
The Odyssey has collected $429.65 million from domestic markets and $578.8 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $1.008 billion. IMAX screenings have played a significant role, contributing $257 million so far. Industry reports indicate that The Odyssey is on track to become IMAX’s highest-grossing release ever.
Despite these impressive numbers, the film’s box-office journey is far from over. The Odyssey is yet to release in China, the world’s second-largest film market. A major rollout is planned, with the film set to open on 800 IMAX screens and numerous standard screens across the country. This expansion is expected to further boost its global earnings.
Currently, The Odyssey stands as the third-highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. It is now within striking distance of overtaking Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.33 billion) to claim the top spot among R-rated releases. With its continued strong performance and upcoming China debut, The Odyssey is poised to set new box-office records in the coming weeks.
