Dhanush’s Kara Gets Underwhelming Box Office Start
Dhanush’s latest outing, Kara, hit cinemas yesterday but failed to generate much excitement at the box office in both Tamil Nadu and Telugu states. The film’s opening numbers mark the lowest for Dhanush since the pandemic, surprising many given his usual consistency in drawing crowds with multiple releases each year.
Directed by Vignesh Raja, Kara is positioned as a mass entertainer with a strong social message centred on farmers. The film features Mamita Baiju as the leading lady and is produced by Vels Film International in collaboration with Think Studios. However, the film struggled to make a mark, reportedly due to lacklustre promotional activities and an uninspiring trailer that failed to spark interest among audiences. The absence of a strong supporting cast also worked against its favour, reducing appeal in a competitive market.
Reports from industry trackers indicate that the buzz around Kara was minimal even before release, with social media reactions echoing disappointment over the marketing and trailer presentation. The film’s inability to engage audiences, especially in the Telugu states, has been cited as a major reason for its underperformance.
As Kara begins its theatrical run, all eyes are on whether positive word of mouth can help revive its fortunes in the coming days, or if Dhanush will swiftly move on to his next awaited project.
