Key Highlights
- Jailer 2’s Telugu advance bookings total just ₹3 crore so far
- Promotional content and music failed to excite Telugu audiences
- Release coincides with Dussehra, but bookings remain low
- Film’s performance now depends on post-release word-of-mouth
Rajinikanth’s latest film, Jailer 2, is set for release this Thursday, but the Telugu-dubbed version is facing a surprising setback. Despite the massive success of the original Jailer in Tollywood, advance bookings for the sequel have been notably sluggish. As of today, pre-sales for the Telugu version have reached only ₹3 crore, a figure that falls far short of expectations for a film of this scale and star power.
Directed by Nelson, Jailer 2 was widely expected to replicate or even surpass the box office frenzy created by its predecessor. However, both domestic and overseas advance bookings for the Telugu release are described as highly disappointing. The film’s promotional material and music have not managed to create significant buzz among Telugu audiences, leaving the project heavily dependent on initial audience reactions after release.
The timing of the release, coinciding with the festive Dussehra season, was anticipated to boost ticket sales. Yet, the tepid response so far suggests that the film’s appeal has not translated into strong advance bookings. According to reports, the lack of excitement around the promotional content has contributed to the underwhelming numbers, with industry observers noting that the film’s fate may now rest on word-of-mouth and early reviews.
With just days to go before Jailer 2 hits theatres, all attention is on director Nelson and whether the film can turn the tide once audiences have seen it.
