Manoj Bajpayee, widely regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most versatile actors, has opened up about his deliberate move away from big-budget films. Known for his impactful performances in both mainstream and independent cinema, Bajpayee has recently chosen to focus on OTT series and smaller, content-driven projects.

In a candid interview with Variety India, Bajpayee shared his reasons for steering clear of large-scale commercial productions. He explained that while big-budget films can offer substantial financial rewards, they often do not provide him with the creative satisfaction he seeks. "Films don’t offer much to me. If they pay me well, they can take care of many things in my life, give me a great holiday and become a great investment; then I can go ahead and think of compromising," Bajpayee stated.

He further elaborated on the working environment of big-ticket entertainers, noting that the atmosphere on such sets tends to revolve around a single star, with the rest of the cast and crew waiting for the lead actor's arrival. Bajpayee said, "Instead of just being on a set where everyone is waiting for the stars to come and the whole deal is depending on one person, I’d rather do these projects. If there’s no commercial gain, no career gain, why should I be part of it? Even the respect is less."

Bajpayee’s comments highlight a growing trend among established actors who are prioritising meaningful roles and creative fulfillment over commercial success. His recent choices reflect a conscious shift towards projects that value artistic contribution over star-centric dynamics.
