Sai Pallavi’s much-anticipated Bollywood debut in 'EK Din', produced by Aamir Khan, has surprised industry watchers with its unexpectedly weak box office opening. The romantic drama, which also stars Aamir’s son Junaid Khan, was released on May Day a public holiday primed for big numbers but failed to draw crowds to theatres.

Sai Pallavi, celebrated for her thoughtful choice of roles and strong performances in South Indian cinema, had held out on several Hindi film offers before agreeing to this project. 'EK Din' carries the weight of Aamir Khan’s production legacy and the curiosity surrounding Junaid Khan’s lead role debut. Yet, despite heavy promotion, including a Mumbai premiere where Aamir Khan was seen in tears an emotional moment that caught attention online the film struggled to translate buzz into ticket sales.

Directed by Sunil Pandey, 'EK Din' is a remake of the 2016 Thai film 'One Day'. Audience reactions have been muted, with several reviews lamenting that Sai Pallavi’s talents were underutilised in the narrative. Even with no major competing releases that weekend, the film could not capitalise on the holiday window.

With this setback, all eyes will be on Sai Pallavi’s next moves in Bollywood and whether the film finds a second life through digital platforms or word-of-mouth in the coming weeks.
