Aditya Haasan Opens Up on Epic Trailer Backlash: 'Shocked and Disturbed'

Aditya Haasan, director of the upcoming Telugu film Epic, has spoken candidly about the intense backlash following the film's trailer launch. The movie features Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya in lead roles, and its trailer drew swift and mixed responses online, particularly regarding its sexual themes. This reaction marked a surprising turn for Haasan, who had previously received widespread praise for his earlier works, including #90’s and his contribution to the Telugu dialogues in Premalu.

At a recent pre-release event, Aditya Haasan described his emotional response to the criticism, stating, “After the trailer came out, I met with a sudden shock. I am not used to this. Now I understand how great Sandeep Reddy Vanga garu is. The trailer backlash itself made me somewhat disturbed. When I made #90’s, everyone praised me. The same happened with the Premalu Telugu dialogues. There has been no such negative thing in my career so far.”

Haasan went on to reflect on the impact of the backlash, admitting he felt his life had changed dramatically due to the unexpected negativity. However, he expressed gratitude towards reviewers and supporters who continued to trust his vision, saying, “They have placed their trust in me, and hopefully, the film satisfies them. I am definitely hoping that Epic makes sense to so many people. I am doing films to spread positivity and hope.”

Epic, which was previously covered for its teaser release earlier this year, has generated significant buzz ahead of its theatrical debut. The film’s team now awaits audience response to the full feature, hoping it will resonate beyond the controversy sparked by its trailer.
