Alia Bhatt has become the center of attention as she joins the highly anticipated sequel of Kalki 2898 AD, with filming currently underway in Hyderabad. This major update follows considerable chatter about the film’s evolving ensemble, especially after Deepika Padukone’s exit from the franchise.

Director Nag Ashwin, riding high after the success of the original, is orchestrating this ambitious project under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies. The sequel, which already features industry heavyweights Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, has reportedly wrapped two schedules so far. Recent speculation on social media suggests that Sai Pallavi is the frontrunner to play Sumathi, a role previously essayed by Deepika Padukone. However, Nag Ashwin clarified, “Sumathi is an important character of Kalki 2898 AD. Sai Pallavi replacing Deepika Padukone is a speculation and we will announce the name officially very soon. Sumathi is the mother of Kalki and we cannot change the character.”

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt’s involvement is confirmed to be for a significant new role, not as a replacement for Sumathi. Reports indicate she has already completed some scenes, adding intrigue to the sequel’s narrative.

With production progressing steadily and a release planned for next year, fans are eager for more official announcements and casting confirmations in the coming months.
