Director AR Murugadoss is currently embroiled in controversy following the financial fallout of his recent film Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan. Known for delivering blockbuster hits, Murugadoss has faced criticism as this film failed to meet expectations both critically and commercially.
Madharaasi was initially planned with a budget of around ₹115 crore, but production costs soared close to ₹180 crore. The movie managed to earn just about ₹100 crore, leading to significant losses. Producers have claimed that Murugadoss's simultaneous commitment to Salman Khan’s Sikandar affected his focus on Madharaasi, contributing to the budget escalation and delays.
Following the producers' complaint demanding ₹10 crore in compensation, the Directors & Producers Council reviewed the matter. Instead of financial compensation, the council directed Murugadoss to contribute the story for Ramana 2, a sequel to his acclaimed 2002 film Ramana, at no cost. This solution aims to balance the producer's losses while leveraging Murugadoss's creative input.
The director has yet to issue an official statement on the dispute. Fans and industry observers are keenly awaiting his next move, especially as he prepares to engage audiences with upcoming projects after this challenging phase.
