Arya and Pa. Ranjith Begin Filming 'Sarpatta Parambarai Round 2' After Delay

Arya and director Pa. Ranjith have officially started shooting for 'Sarpatta Parambarai Round 2', the prequel to their acclaimed 2021 sports drama. The original film, which premiered directly on Amazon Prime Video, received strong critical praise and quickly built a devoted fanbase for its gritty portrayal of North Chennai's boxing culture.

Following the success of 'Sarpatta Parambarai', the makers announced plans for a prequel in 2023. Now, three years after that announcement, production has finally commenced. The news was shared by the team on social media, generating excitement among fans who have been eagerly awaiting updates on the project.

The film reunites several popular cast members from the first installment. Dushara Vijayan returns as Mariyamma, Pasupathy reprises his role as Rangan Vaathiyar, John Kokken is back as Vembuli, and Shabeer Kallarakkal once again plays Dancing Rose. This continuity in casting is expected to deepen the connection to the original story and characters.

Production is being handled by Girish Mathrubootham, Pa. Ranjith, and Sayyeshaa. While Santhosh Narayanan composed the music for the first film, his involvement in the new project is anticipated but not yet officially confirmed.

In earlier coverage from August, the film was described as a prequel to the hit sports drama, with Pa. Ranjith returning to direct. As filming gets underway, anticipation is high for how the new chapter will expand the Sarpatta Parambarai universe.
