Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve headline the much-awaited sci-fi horror film Backrooms, which has now officially postponed its India release from May 29 to June 12, 2026. The project, directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons—who rocketed to fame with his chilling YouTube videos—has been drawing immense attention ever since A24 and celebrated producers James Wan and Shawn Levy came on board.

Backrooms is inspired by the eerie internet myth and the viral found footage style that made Parsons a sensation online. With a cast also featuring Mark Duplass and Finn Bennett, the film was slated for a simultaneous global debut, but Indian horror fans must now wait two more weeks due to what reports cite as 'screen allocation and theatrical planning' challenges in India.

Social media has erupted with disappointment, as the film’s mystery-driven plot is highly susceptible to online spoilers once it premieres abroad. Fans are worried that "avoiding spoilers for two weeks could become nearly impossible," as per reports. The production is also turning heads for its ambitious scale, with a sprawling 30,000 square foot maze-like set constructed to echo the unsettling world of the original videos.

With anticipation at a fever pitch and Parsons’ remarkable leap from viral creator to director fueling excitement, fans now count down to June 12, hoping to experience Backrooms’ terror unspoiled on the big screen.
