Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor's much-anticipated film, Peddi, has stirred intense conversation after a scene between the leads drew public criticism. The controversy centres on a kiss scene that many viewers found forced, sparking debate both on social media and among fans of the stars.
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, who is known for his unique storytelling style, the film is set in the 1980s in rural Andhra Pradesh. It chronicles the journey of a lower-caste youth, played by Ram Charan, as he rises to prominence through wrestling, with his character's romance with Janhvi Kapoor's role designed to add a playful dimension. However, the depiction has not landed as intended with sections of the audience.
Addressing the backlash in a recent interaction with Screen, Buchi Babu Sana expressed his surprise at the negative response: "I had not anticipated that the scenes would be perceived so negatively by audiences. The idea was to showcase a playful romance story between Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. However, we’ll be more careful and make better representations," the director stated.
With A.R. Rahman providing the musical score, expectations remain high for Peddi’s release. As reactions continue to pour in, the team has assured fans that lessons will be learned moving forward, and all eyes are now on how the film fares upon its official debut.
