Deewana Cast Expresses Displeasure Over CBFC's A Certificate
Harshith Reddy and Smeha Meghamalai's latest film, Deewana, has landed in the spotlight for more than just its positive critical reception. The team, led by director Sreekanth Sangishetty, is grappling with the Central Board of Film Certification's decision to grant the film an A certificate, despite their belief in its family-friendly nature.
Deewana, which marks another notable outing for Sreekanth Sangishetty, has been appreciated by reviewers, yet the A certificate has left both the industry and audience puzzled. During a recent success meet, the entire cast and crew voiced their frustration, emphasizing that the adult certification is preventing many potential viewers from booking tickets, as they fear unsuitable content.
Producer Sridevi passionately addressed the issue, stating, “After the premiere show, many came to us and appreciated us. But we are not completely happy. Friends and the general audience who are ready to watch Deewana are stopping at the last minute when BookMyShow showed them an A rating for the movie while booking the tickets. We made a clean film. I’m telling this as a woman. I made a film that I can watch comfortably with my kids and family. I am proud of what I made.”
With the controversy drawing attention, the team hopes for a reconsideration or at least increased audience awareness about the film's true content. Fans are now eager to see how Deewana’s box office journey unfolds in the coming weeks.
