Hrithik Roshan made headlines with his appearance in the newly released Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson. The film, which hit theatres yesterday, features a host of celebrated actors in cameo roles, but it is Hrithik's brief presence before the climax that has drawn the most attention. Known for his recent Bollywood successes, Hrithik reportedly agreed to a cameo lasting less than a minute, yet received a staggering ₹25 crore for the role.
The decision to cast Hrithik for such a short screen time has sparked criticism among moviegoers and on social media, with many questioning the value of his remuneration given the limited impact of his role. According to reports, "For a role with no prominence and less screen presence, the makers should have opted out for other options." Some viewers even speculated whether his part had been trimmed during editing, as his appearance felt fleeting.
Jailer 2, produced by Sun Pictures with music by Anirudh, also features Vidya Balan, who was paid ₹6 crore for her role, and Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar, who received ₹8 crore. Vijay Sethupathi's role was almost entirely cut, appearing only in the end credits, reportedly as a setup for a possible Jailer 3. Rajinikanth, the film's lead, is said to have worked on a profit-sharing model, with a base remuneration of ₹110 crore and total earnings expected to reach ₹180 crore.
Despite the controversy over cameo payments, Jailer 2 is running successfully in theatres, drawing attention for its star-studded cast and high production values.
