After his writing contributions helped both films earn strong audience appreciation, Josey now leads this family comedy drama, aiming to blend heartfelt emotions with humour and entertainment.
Picnic is produced by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Syam Pushkaran under the Bhavana Studios banner, a production house that has built a reputation for quality Malayalam cinema. The cast features Sandeep Pradeep in the lead, joined by seasoned actor Indrajith Sukumaran and National Award-winning filmmaker-actor Dileesh Pothan in significant roles. Sujina Sreedharan and Akshatha Ajith also join the ensemble, promising a multi-generational story.
The first-look poster, recently unveiled, showcases vibrant visuals of characters from various age groups set against lush hills and colourful flower fields, hinting at the film’s lively and family-friendly tone. Music for Picnic is composed by Govind Vasantha, known for his acclaimed work in 96 and Sathyam Sundaram.
Picnic is set for a grand worldwide theatrical release on January 14, 2027, coinciding with the Sankranthi festival. The film will simultaneously release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, marking Bhavana Studios’ intent to reach a broader South Indian audience. For the Telugu release, the studio has partnered with Showing Business, which previously distributed Premalu to considerable success in the Telugu market. Further updates about Picnic are expected in the coming months.
