Kunal Kohli has stirred debate in Bollywood by revealing that leading filmmakers were rooting against the success of Dhurandhar, the spy action spectacle headlined by Ranveer Singh and helmed by Aditya Dhar. Kohli, known for his acclaimed work on films like "Hum Tum," commented on the industry's reluctance to support projects outside its established circle, despite their mass appeal or creative merit.

During a candid exchange, Kohli recounted how several influential directors predicted that Dhurandhar would falter after its opening weekend. However, the film defied these expectations, not only sustaining momentum but also making history as the first Indian franchise to cross ₹3000 crores globally. "Even when the industry doesn’t support a film, the film still works. Nobody supported Dhurandhar. The biggest directors I spoke to on the phone said: ‘Monday ko baith jayegi.’ Monday ko aur chal gayi,” Kohli revealed.

The director also pointed to the surprise success of Border 2, which surpassed ₹300 crores at the box office, challenging the pessimism of industry insiders. Kohli stressed, "It doesn’t matter if the industry supports you or not," highlighting the disconnect between elite opinion and audience response.

With Dhurandhar's triumph setting new benchmarks, all eyes are now on how Bollywood’s power circles will respond to future projects that challenge their notions of what can succeed.
