Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s Varanasi Nears Completion
Superstar Mahesh Babu’s much-awaited collaboration with director SS Rajamouli—the big-budget adventure Varanasi—has reached a crucial stage, with the filmmaker confirming a significant portion of the shoot is now done. Rajamouli, fresh off his appearance at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, revealed that the film’s grand action sequences, specially crafted for the IMAX experience, have already been wrapped up.
Rajamouli, who has consistently raised the bar with each project, describes Varanasi as his “most ambitious film to date.” The film stands out as the first Indian feature shot entirely in the IMAX 1.43:1 format, blending mythology, action, and fantasy across global locations and timelines. Alongside Mahesh Babu, the cast boasts Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, amplifying the film’s star power and appeal.
The production, backed by KL Narayana, has been the talk of the town ever since its title and first-look reveal. Fans and industry circles are buzzing about Rajamouli’s meticulous approach—Prithviraj reportedly shared that nearly 100 takes were shot for a single sequence. According to Rajamouli, only a few connecting scenes remain before the film heads into post-production, marking a major milestone after months of intense shooting.
With a theatrical release slated for April 7th, 2027, anticipation for Varanasi continues to build. All eyes now turn to the team as they approach the final leg of shooting before diving into what promises to be a massive post-production phase.
