Mahesh Babu's iconic film Pokiri, which marked a milestone in his career and in collaboration with director Puri Jagannadh, was set for a grand re-release this May. However, this plan has been abruptly halted owing to financial difficulties faced by Puri Jagannadh. The director reportedly owes money to distributors from the losses incurred on his recent film Liger, and further setbacks followed with the failure of Double iSmart.
A group of distributors led by Suniel Narang has taken a firm stance to block the re-release of any projects linked to Puri Jagannadh until outstanding debts are cleared. This move has understandably disappointed fans who fondly remember Pokiri’s special shows in 2022 that garnered immense appreciation.
With the shelving of Pokiri’s re-release, Mahesh Babu’s earlier hit Athidi is stepping in to fill the void. Meanwhile, industry watchers are closely monitoring Puri Jagannadh’s upcoming project Slumdog, featuring Vijay Sethupathi, which has wrapped filming and is eyed for a summer release.
Despite the setback, Pokiri’s legacy in Tollywood remains untarnished as a blockbuster classic. Fans eagerly await Puri Jagannadh’s strong comeback, hoping he overcomes current hurdles to deliver another memorable hit.
