Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s Varanasi promises cinematic grandeur

Superstar Mahesh Babu is gearing up for a landmark project with Varanasi, helmed by acclaimed director SS Rajamouli. After the global success of RRR and Baahubali, Rajamouli’s next venture is already drawing immense attention as it eyes a spectacular theatrical release on April 7, 2027.

Set against an ambitious canvas, Varanasi also features Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, with Prakash Raj joining in a pivotal role. The film, currently being promoted in Paris, is produced by KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya, with music by MM Keeravaani. Rajamouli recently shared insights during international screenings, revealing that the film will traverse wild African landscapes, Antarctica’s frozen vistas, mythic Ramayana realms, and dramatic natural disasters, all elevated by stunning fantasy elements. Despite its sweeping scale, Rajamouli emphasised, “the emotional bond between a father and son will remain the very soul of the film.”

With Varanasi designed specially for the IMAX experience and other premium formats, expectations are running high among fans and film enthusiasts. A significant portion of the shoot is expected to wrap by September, with post-production work to follow at a brisk pace.

As production continues, audiences can look forward to updates on this much-anticipated cinematic spectacle, set to redefine boundaries in 2027.
