Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli Focus on Father-Son Bond in Varanasi

Mahesh Babu headlines Rajamouli's upcoming film Varanasi, which is shaping up as a large-scale adventure with a strong emotional foundation. Following the global success of RRR, director SS Rajamouli is collaborating with Mahesh Babu for the first time, aiming to blend mythological drama, fantasy, and action on an international scale.

Rajamouli has revealed that, despite the film's grand visuals and ambitious narrative, the heart of Varanasi lies in the father-son relationship. "The father-son bond is the emotional core of Varanasi," the director said, highlighting the dynamic between Mahesh Babu's character Rudhra and his on-screen father, played by Prakash Raj. This relationship is set to anchor the story as it traverses different worlds and timelines.

Varanasi is not a straightforward adventure. The story weaves through multiple periods and draws inspiration from the Ramayana, with Mahesh Babu reportedly appearing as Lord Rama in a significant sequence. Priyanka Chopra joins the cast as the female lead, while Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the antagonist. Rajamouli has previously discussed the film's scale, mentioning locations like Africa and Antarctica, as well as sequences involving natural disasters and mythological elements. However, he clarified that Varanasi is not purely science fiction but a mythological drama infused with fantasy.

The film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on April 7, 2027. Earlier this year, coverage highlighted the film's unique blend of mythology and adventure, and anticipation has only grown as more details emerge about its emotional depth and star-studded cast.
