Mahesh Babu and Soundarya’s Unfulfilled Yamaleela Dream
Mahesh Babu was once considered for a pivotal role in SV Krishna Reddy’s fantasy entertainer Yamaleela, with the celebrated Soundarya set to play alongside him. This casting, had it happened, would have paired two rising stars early in their careers, generating tremendous curiosity in Telugu cinema circles.
Following his successful debut with Rajakumarudu, Mahesh quickly caught the attention of prominent directors, keen on working with the son of Super Star Krishna. At just 19, Mahesh was approached by Krishna Reddy, who envisioned him as the lead in Yamaleela opposite Soundarya, then aged 22. However, as recounted by those close to the project, Krishna intervened, expressing concern: he felt Mahesh was too young for such a demanding subject and was wary of taking that risk at such an early stage. Krishna reportedly advised, "There is an age gap, and Mahesh is too small to handle such a big subject."
Ultimately, the project moved forward with Ali and Indraja stepping into the lead roles, under the production of SV Krishna Reddy. The film’s eventual success at the box office proved monumental, cementing its place as a blockbuster and launching new trajectories for its actual stars.
Fans often look back on what could have been, imagining Mahesh and Soundarya’s chemistry on screen. As Mahesh Babu’s career continues to scale new heights, audiences remain eager for any surprises and dream pairings in his future projects.
