Mammootty, Mohanlal’s Patriot stumbles after record opening

Mollywood icons Mammootty and Mohanlal brought enormous star power to the spy action thriller Patriot, which made a grand entrance with a reported ₹28 crore opening, marking it as the second biggest debut ever for a Malayalam film. Despite this thunderous start, the film’s momentum stalled dramatically just a day later.

Director Mahesh Narayanan, known for his previous acclaimed works, helmed Patriot with an ensemble cast including Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban, and Revathi. Produced by Anto Joseph and KG Anil Kumar, the film was highly anticipated, with fans eager to see multiple legends share the screen.

However, the initial euphoria quickly faded as negative reviews and weak word of mouth began circulating. BookMyShow data revealed day two ticket sales dropped to less than half of day one’s figures, signalling a severe dip in audience interest. As per industry sources, the film’s expensive production costs are now a major concern, with box office trends pointing towards a sizeable flop.

This outcome underscores the Malayalam audience’s preference for compelling narratives over mere star presence. All eyes are now on the team’s next moves and whether Patriot can recover ground in the coming days.
