Mani Ratnam Targets Sankranthi 2027 for Vijay Sethupathi, Sai Pallavi Film

Mani Ratnam, celebrated for his distinctive storytelling, is currently helming a romantic entertainer featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. After a major shooting schedule in Kolkata, the team has now shifted to Chennai, working continuously to keep the project on track. Mani Ratnam’s production house, Madras Talkies, is backing this film, which is being made on a tight budget and within a limited number of working days.

The director, known for his recent successes and consistent creative output, is reportedly keen to release this untitled film during the Sankranthi 2027 holiday season. According to reports, an official announcement regarding the release date will be made once filming concludes. This move positions Mani Ratnam’s project alongside other high-profile Tamil releases, including Rajinikanth’s 'Dharman', in the competitive Sankranthi slot.

Vijay Sethupathi, who has wrapped up work on 'Train' and 'Slumdog: 33 Temple Road'—both set to release later this year—brings his signature versatility to the project. Sai Pallavi, meanwhile, has been focusing on 'Ramayana', with its first part scheduled for a Diwali release this year. Earlier this year, it was reported that Mani Ratnam and Vijay Sethupathi would collaborate on a romantic drama, marking a much-anticipated pairing for fans of both talents.

The production team is maintaining a brisk pace, aiming to complete filming without delays. Once the shoot wraps up, Madras Talkies is expected to make an official announcement about the film’s title and release plans.
