Producer emphasizes showcasing Indian heritage worldwide

Namit Malhotra’s ambitious film "Ramayana", starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, is gearing up for a grand Diwali 2026 release. The project, helmed by acclaimed director Nitesh Tiwari, took center stage at the recent Pratham Sankalp event in Delhi, where over 10,000 attendees gathered at Bharat Mandapam to witness the unveiling of this cinematic vision.

Malhotra, whose production house DNEG boasts eight Oscars for visual effects, spoke passionately about the film’s mission. Reflecting on the Indian film industry's global standing, he remarked, "We wanted to take our culture to the global stage with Ramayana. Over the last 20-30 years, I have always wondered what we lacked and what Western filmmakers possess. The Indian film industry is lagging behind Hollywood, and we aim to close that gap. Our company, DNEG, has won eight Oscars for visual effects." He emphasized the cast's dedication and the importance of choosing a story that truly represents Indian heritage, stating, "We were thinking of a story that could showcase our heritage to the world, and what better subject could there be than Ramayana? We didn’t want to compromise on anything. There are many versions, and we don’t want to hurt the audience’s sentiments."

Malhotra also highlighted the universal appeal of the epic, noting, "Generally, movies are made for a specific audience, such as the youth, the elderly, men, or women. But Ramayana appeals to everyone, including believers and non-believers. We want the movie to tug at the heartstrings."

With the film slated for a festive Diwali release, anticipation is building among fans and industry watchers alike. As production progresses, all eyes are on how this star-studded adaptation will bring India’s timeless epic to a global audience.
