Nivin Pauly, who recently delivered a major industry hit with Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, has faced a surprising setback with his latest release, Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai. The psychological thriller, helmed by director Ram, features Kollywood actor Soori in a pivotal role and also stars Anjali. Despite the strong credentials and the anticipation following Nivin’s previous blockbuster, the film has failed to draw audiences to theatres.
According to box office reports, Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai registered extremely low collections, earning less than ₹1 crore globally on its opening day. This tepid response is particularly unexpected given the momentum from Nivin Pauly’s last outing. The movie, produced by Suresh Kamatchi under V House Productions, also boasts music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, yet these elements have not translated into ticket sales.
The lack of buzz at the ticket windows stands in stark contrast to the excitement that surrounded Bethlehem Kudumba Unit. Industry analysts note that such a sharp drop in audience turnout is rare for a star coming off an industry hit. The film’s underwhelming performance has caught many by surprise, especially as it was expected to benefit from Nivin’s recent success.
Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai is slated for a Telugu release under the title Sanchari. As previously reported on September 30, the Telugu version’s release was postponed from its original October 1 date. For now, the focus remains on the unexpectedly poor theatrical run of the original version.
