Promotions and advance bookings in Telugu market remain limited
Success may depend on post-release word of mouth
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s action drama "Khalifa" is gearing up for its theatrical debut in Telugu states on August 20, 2026. Known for his strong performances in Malayalam cinema, Prithviraj takes on the role of Aamir Ali in this film, directed by Vysakh. The movie is simultaneously releasing in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu, but the Telugu version has seen notably subdued promotional efforts.
The film features an ensemble cast including Mohanlal as Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, Aamir Ali’s grandfather, alongside Tovino Thomas, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Krithi Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Malvika Sharma, and Indrans. The story is penned by Jinu V. Abraham, who also produces the film with Suraj Kumar. Jomon T. John handles cinematography, Chaman Chakko is in charge of editing, and Jakes Bejoy provides the music.
Despite the star-studded lineup, advance bookings for "Khalifa" in the Telugu states have been tepid, reflecting the limited promotional push in the region. Industry observers suggest that the film’s success in the Telugu market will hinge on strong word of mouth and positive reviews after release. With the film hitting screens tomorrow, all eyes are on its initial reception and whether it can overcome the slow start in bookings.
