The numbers are insane, and Tollywood isn't ready.
Allu Arjun's Raaka, directed by Jawan-fame Atlee, hasn't even finished shooting yet the pre-release business buzz is already sending shockwaves through the industry. Netflix has reportedly acquired the digital rights for a jaw-dropping ₹600 crore Justwebseries, making it one of the biggest OTT deals in Indian cinema history. Sun Pictures is bankrolling the project with a massive budget exceeding ₹800 crore Gulte, making it the costliest film of Bunny's career. But here's the analytical kicker look at the trajectory.
Pushpa: The Rise (2021) was a modest ₹350 crore grosser worldwide. Nobody expected what came next. Pushpa 2: The Rule shattered the ceiling with a pre-release business of ₹1,065 crore theatrical rights alone fetched ₹640 crore, Netflix paid ₹275 crore, satellite ₹85 crore, and music ₹65 crore. The sequel then went on to collect approximately $194 million globally, becoming the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time Variety.
Now do the math. Pushpa 1 to Pushpa 2 was a 5X jump in pre-release valuation. If Raaka's OTT deal alone is ₹600 crore more than double Pushpa 2's Netflix deal trade analysts predict the total pre-release business could comfortably breach ₹1,500 crore when theatrical, satellite, and music rights are finalized.
The Atlee factor adds rocket fuel. His last film Jawan grossed over ₹1,100 crore worldwide. Combine that commercial instinct with Allu Arjun's post-Pushpa pan-India stardom and Deepika Padukone's Bollywood pull, and you have a distribution goldmine.
Industry insiders are whispering one word: unprecedented. The only question left can Raaka actually deliver at the box office, or will the hype eat itself alive? With a budget this massive, the film will need to gross well over ₹1,500 crore just to keep distributors in profit Tupaki.
One thing's certain Allu Arjun isn't just arriving. He's arriving as the RAAKA.
