Rahi Anil Barve, celebrated for his pathbreaking film Tumbbad, has officially announced a bold new cinematic journey with his mythological trilogy, starting with Pahadpangira in 2027. The acclaimed director, who recently saw a resurgence in Tumbbad's cult status after its theatrical re-release, is poised to steer Indian fantasy cinema into uncharted terrain.

Pahadpangira is envisioned as a dark period fantasy drama, delving into the themes of 'Gods, Men, and the First Fearless Woman.' The film draws focus to the Sati practice and what Barve describes as 'the dawn of liberation' and 'the birth of feminism.' Reports indicate that Shraddha Kapoor is being considered for the lead, adding to the anticipation.

Barve's ambitious plans will culminate with Pakshitirtha in 2030, a mythological epic exploring 'Man, Woman, and the Last Witness of Creation.' Promising an in-depth look at the legendary Kakabhushundi bird, the director aims to craft a saga steeped in folklore and dark fantasy. Meanwhile, his recent project Mayasabha – The Hall of Illusion received a mixed response from audiences.

Looking ahead, Barve is also collaborating with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. on the Netflix fantasy action series Rakt Brāhmand, featuring Samantha and Aditya Roy Kapur, set for release in late 2026 or early 2027. Fans can expect Barve’s mythic storytelling to redefine Indian genre cinema in the coming years.
