Rajinikanth’s much-awaited sequel, Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is facing an unexpected roadblock as the Telugu theatrical rights remain unsold ahead of its planned August release. This is a surprising twist considering the original Jailer was a massive success in both Tamil and Telugu markets.

With all non-theatrical rights already secured, the production house Sun Pictures is reportedly quoting a hefty ₹60 crore for the Telugu theatrical rights. However, top distributors and producers are yet to show interest, reportedly due to the high asking price and the considerable time left before release. The makers had also attempted to bring a prominent Telugu actor on board for a crucial role to strengthen the film’s appeal in the Telugu states, but Nandamuri Balakrishna has declined the offer, further dampening immediate interest.

Previously, leading names like Asian Suniel, Dil Raju, and Suresh Babu released Jailer in Telugu regions on a commission basis, and a similar arrangement could be considered if a direct deal does not materialize. For now, the lack of buyers has stirred negative buzz among industry circles, with many waiting to see if the makers adjust terms or if anticipation grows closer to the release.

Fans and trade observers will be closely watching how the situation develops as the August release date approaches, especially to see whether a lucrative deal can be struck or if the film will follow a commission-based release strategy.
