Rajinikanth’s upcoming venture Thalaivar 173 is creating waves as it reportedly shares thematic similarities with Thalapathy Vijay’s hit Leo. The film will see Rajinikanth portraying a serene family man whose dark, violent past emerges unexpectedly, echoing the storyline that made Leo a standout. Fans are keen to witness how the veteran actor will infuse his signature style into this complex character.
The film reunites Rajinikanth with actress Shobana, rekindling the magic of their 1991 collaboration in Thalapathi. Basil Joseph has been cast as the superstar’s son, adding to the fresh yet nostalgic appeal. Directed by Cibi Chakravarthi and produced under the esteemed Raaj Kamal Films International banner headed by Kamal Haasan, Thalaivar 173 promises a blend of action and family drama.
After a directorial change with Sundar C stepping down due to creative differences and Chakravarthi taking the helm the project is back on track. The team has scouted picturesque locations in Amritsar, Punjab, aiming for a distinct visual tone. Music maestro Anirudh is composing the soundtrack, heightening anticipation. Filming is scheduled to start post-Tamil Nadu elections on April 28, with a festive release planned for Pongal or Sankranthi 2027.
