Ranbir Kapoor Defends Ramayana VFX Amid Criticism After Trailer Release

Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama in the upcoming epic adaptation Ramayana, has spoken out about the criticism surrounding the film's visual effects. The actor, known for his recent performances in major Bollywood projects, addressed the reactions that surfaced after the trailer's release, where some viewers compared the VFX quality to other recent mythological films.

Ranbir responded by highlighting the effort and expertise involved in creating the film's computer-generated imagery. He found it amusing that many critics were judging the visuals after watching the trailer on their phones, suggesting that the true impact of the VFX can only be experienced in theatres. Ranbir emphasized that a large team of artists and technicians has been working on Ramayana, and the visuals seen in the trailer are the result of a detailed, time-consuming process—not something produced instantly or simply by AI.

Producer Namit Malhotra, whose company DNEG is handling the VFX, also addressed the criticism. He pointed out that some of the negative comments do not reflect the complexity and scale of the work involved in bringing a project like Ramayana to life. Malhotra noted that the team has been working on the visual effects for an extended period, aiming to deliver a theatrical-level experience.

Director Nitesh Tiwari acknowledged the ongoing discussions about the visuals, stating that the film is nearing completion and that the VFX process is a crucial part of the final stage. Despite online trolling, the team remains focused on finishing the film. Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, and is being made as a two-part adaptation with extensive digital environments and action sequences.
