Ranveer Singh’s latest action spectacle, Dhurandhar 2, has taken the box office by storm, shattering records with a global haul of over ₹1,650 crore. While the film, directed by Aditya Dhar and bankrolled by B62 Studios, continues its triumphant theatrical run, it is now navigating both legal and release-related challenges.
Aditya Dhar, known for delivering high-octane thrillers, has assembled a stellar cast including Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan. The film’s near four-hour runtime hasn’t deterred audiences, as the saga of undercover agent Jaskirat Singh Rangi in Pakistan continues to draw packed houses. In a testament to its popularity, Jio Studios reportedly clinched the digital rights for a massive ₹150 crore, nearly doubling the figure for the first installment.
However, the film’s journey isn’t without turbulence. Trimurti Films has filed a legal case in the Bombay High Court against B62 Studios, alleging the song “Rang De Lal” closely resembles their classic “Tirchi Topiwale” from Tridev and was used without permission. They are seeking a halt to the song’s usage across all platforms and a share of the earnings. As per reports, if the court rules in their favor, the song may be removed from both theatrical and digital versions.
Meanwhile, fans eagerly awaiting the OTT release on JioHotstar will have to wait a bit longer. The digital premiere, initially rumored for mid-May, is now likely postponed to early June due to the ongoing IPL. Industry insiders suggest JioHotstar aims to avoid clashing with cricket fever, ensuring the film gets its deserved digital spotlight. Stay tuned as the legal battle unfolds and an official OTT release date is announced.
