Sai Pallavi Reflects on Her Role in Ek Din
Acclaimed South Indian actress Sai Pallavi made her much-anticipated Hindi debut with Ek Din, produced by Bollywood stalwart Aamir Khan and starring his son Junaid Khan. Known for her thoughtful selection of roles, Sai Pallavi has previously shied away from overtly glamorous characters, instead focusing on performance-driven films. Her move to take up a lighter, romantic lead in Ek Din marked a significant departure from her established track record.
Despite the buzz around her Bollywood entry, Ek Din struggled right from the opening weekend. The film, directed by Sunil Pandey and backed by Aamir Khan Productions, is a remake of the Thai film One Day (2016). The audience reception was tepid, with negative word-of-mouth and social media criticism directed at both the film and Sai Pallavi’s casting. Many fans and critics questioned whether she was the right fit for such a role.
Addressing the backlash, Sai Pallavi candidly admitted, "I don’t think I am the right choice for Ek Din. It was a miscast. It should have been a new girl for the role who had a little bit of flamboyance." She shared that after watching the premiere alongside Aamir Khan, she felt the character required a different energy. Sai also noted her desire to experiment with lighter roles, expecting Ek Din to evoke the charm of films like Before Sunrise, but ultimately found herself mismatched for the part.
With this experience, audiences are eager to see what Sai Pallavi chooses next, as she continues to balance her artistic instincts with new challenges on a national stage.
