Shocker: Gunasekhar's Ambitious Hiranyakashyapa Shelved After Five Years
Rana Daggubati and director Gunasekhar's much-awaited mythological spectacle, Hiranyakashyapa, has been officially shelved after five years of meticulous planning and anticipation. This announcement comes as a huge jolt to fans who were eagerly looking forward to witnessing a grand mythological film on such a massive scale.
Gunasekhar, renowned for his visually resplendent storytelling and fresh off his recent release Euphoria, had envisioned Hiranyakashyapa as a ₹300 crore magnum opus. The film was originally planned with the backing of global studios like Fox Star Studios. However, significant changes occurred after Disney Studios' acquisition of Fox Star, leading to the project being put on indefinite hold.
Speaking about the development, Gunasekhar confirmed, "The film was planned on a budget of ₹300 crores with global giants like Fox Star Studios associated," and further added that after Disney took over, the circumstances changed. He also mentioned concerns about the potential use of his visual concepts by others, acknowledging that mythological tales do not have exclusive rights. The filmmaker pointed to the earlier success of the animated film Mahavatar Narasimha as evidence of the genre's appeal.
Despite this setback, Gunasekhar remains optimistic, revealing he has four new stories ready and is keen to collaborate with a reputed production house soon. Fans can expect updates about his next directorial venture in the coming months.
