Shruti Haasan has officially replaced Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the lead in the Indo-UK film 'Chennai Story'. Samantha, who was initially cast for the role, stepped away from the project after deciding to take a break from acting due to her pregnancy. This change comes at a time when Shruti Haasan has been expanding her international presence, adding another notable project to her filmography.

'Chennai Story' is directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Philip John, known for his work on 'Downton Abbey'. The film is based on Timeri N Murari’s novel 'The Arrangements of Love' and follows the journey of Anu, a private detective from Chennai. The narrative explores themes of love, identity, and acceptance, set against the contrasting backdrops of Chennai and Cardiff. The film will primarily be in English, with segments in Tamil and Welsh, reflecting its cross-cultural storyline.

Joining Shruti in the lead is Viveik Kalra, while the international cast also includes Kevin Hart, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jean Reno, and Sam Worthington. The project is being produced by Sunitha Tati’s Guru Films in collaboration with Ripple World Pictures and ie ie Productions, and is supported by the British Film Institute’s UK Global Screen Fund.

Shruti Haasan’s entry into the project has generated interest among fans, especially given the film’s unique blend of Indian and Western talent. With Samantha’s exit due to personal reasons, the production has moved forward with Shruti taking on the central role. The film’s cross-continental setting and diverse cast are expected to bring a fresh perspective to the screen.
