Suriya Returns to Karuppu for Climax Reshoot
Kollywood actor Suriya has opened up about an unusual turn in the making of his film Karuppu, revealing that the climax was reshot six months after the initial wrap. Suriya, known for taking on challenging roles and fresh scripts, was already busy filming his next project, the family drama Vishwanath and Sons, when director Balaji approached him with concerns about Karuppu’s ending.
According to Suriya, the film had completed shooting, editing, and was considered locked before Balaji expressed his dissatisfaction with the climax. At that point, Suriya had moved on to a new look for his role in Venky Atluri’s directorial, appearing clean-shaven for Vishwanath and Sons. Despite the logistical challenges, he agreed to return for a two-day shoot in Chennai to redo the crucial scenes.
Suriya described the experience in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, stating, “After six months of pack-up, wrap, shoot, edit locked, then this idea comes up. Then I had to go from Hyderabad to Chennai for two days. I just prayed to the statue and said just guide me… just come inside me and guide me.”
The decision to revisit the film’s climax highlights the creative commitment of both Suriya and director Balaji. While details about the final version of Karuppu’s ending remain under wraps, Suriya’s candid account has drawn attention from fans and industry watchers alike.
