Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons, Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 Lead Independence Day Releases

Suriya’s family drama Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Sithara Entertainments, was among the prominent releases during the Independence Day weekend in 2023. The film, featuring Suriya and Mamitha Baiju, explored themes of love, ambition, and family expectations, and was released in both Telugu and Tamil. Suriya, known for his versatile roles, took on a character navigating personal choices amid familial pressures, as highlighted in the film’s trailer.

Emraan Hashmi returned to his iconic role as Shivam Pandit in Awarapan 2, which hit theatres the same weekend after a rescheduled release. Directed as a sequel to the 2007 film, Awarapan 2 starred Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi, blending action, romance, and emotional drama. The trailer generated significant attention for Emraan’s comeback to the franchise.

Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta led Batwara 1947, a period drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan. Set against the backdrop of the Partition and based on Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play, the film also featured Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, and Ali Fazal, with music by A.R. Rahman.
