Tom Cruise Set for Top Gun 3 Return as Maverick

Tom Cruise is all set to don the aviator shades once again in the newly announced Top Gun 3, confirmed by Paramount at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. After delivering a phenomenal box office hit with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, Cruise’s return to the cockpit has become one of Hollywood’s most anticipated moves.

The previous installment, Top Gun: Maverick, not only revived the iconic franchise but also soared to a staggering $1.5 billion global gross and landed six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Cruise’s portrayal of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell was widely credited with reigniting audience enthusiasm for big-screen adventures post-pandemic. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is once again attached, maintaining continuity with the franchise, though director Joseph Kosinski has yet to confirm his involvement for this third chapter. So far, no additional cast members have been announced, but the buzz around the project remains sky-high.

Following Paramount’s major merger with Skydance in 2025, the studio has made Top Gun 3 a top priority. Tom Cruise, who recently starred in what was billed as the final Mission: Impossible film, is also set to headline Digger, an eagerly awaited collaboration with acclaimed director Alejandro González Iñárritu, scheduled for October 2026.
