Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s highly awaited film Varanasi took the spotlight at CCXP Mexico 2026, but the response at the event was not what the makers expected. Following the global triumph of RRR, Rajamouli’s new project generated immense anticipation, especially with a star cast featuring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Despite the film’s international hype, empty seats greeted the Varanasi team at the major Comic Con panel, surprising many. Producer SS Karthikeya presented exclusive behind-the-scenes footage on stage, while Rajamouli connected with the audience through a video message highlighting Mexican influences in his past hits like Baahubali and RRR. The panel was joined by top global titles like Avengers: Doomsday and Dune Part Three, yet the lack of interest in Varanasi was noted by fans online.
Social media buzzed with disappointment, as one fan remarked, “This is really Embarrassing, SSR Represented India on a Global Scale and Audience at Mexico Comic con are not giving deserved importance to Varanasi. The Empty seats conveys everything.” Another cinephile pointed out that visuals showed people walking out during the screening, fueling concerns about the film’s appeal in Western markets.
Adding to the frustration, the exclusive footage revealed at CCXP Mexico reportedly will not be released digitally, leaving Indian fans eager but unable to catch the glimpse. With KL Narayana of Sri Durga Arts producing this ambitious fantasy entertainer, all eyes now turn to the film’s next promotional move and whether the Indian audience will soon get their own first look.
