Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has landed in a major legal controversy just days before its theatrical release, as producer Vashu Bhagnani has filed a ₹400 crore lawsuit over the use of the remix of the iconic Chunari Chunari song. The film, directed by David Dhawan and also starring Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 5th.

Vashu Bhagnani, who heads Puja Entertainment, claims that Tips Music and director David Dhawan used the Chunari Chunari remix in the new film without proper authorisation. The original track, featured in the 1999 film Biwi No 1, remains a fan favourite. Bhagnani has approached the Bombay High Court, demanding compensation and an immediate halt to the film’s release, asserting that "Tips holds only the audio rights and they are not having any rights to remake the song," as per his legal counsel.

According to reports, Tips Music had previously initiated discussions with Bhagnani in 2018 about the song's visual rights, but no agreement was formalised. Puja Entertainment has now issued a legal notice to Tips Industries to cancel audio rights previously granted. Amidst this high-stakes legal tussle, Tips Music’s Taurani stated at the film’s trailer launch that "there are no hurdles for the film and the disputes are cleared."

With the release date fast approaching and social media abuzz with speculation, all eyes are now on the court’s next move and whether Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai will arrive in theatres as planned.
