Vijay Deverakonda is set to bring untold stories from Indian history to the big screen with his upcoming film 'Ranabaali', releasing worldwide on October 16. Known for his dynamic roles in Telugu cinema, Vijay teams up with director Rahul Sankrityan for this ambitious project. Rashmika Mandanna stars as Jayamma, adding to the film's strong cast. The production is helmed by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, with T-Series presenting the film.
Vijay Deverakonda shared that 'Ranabaali' draws inspiration from the lives of historical warriors whose sacrifices were often preserved only in folk traditions and songs, not mainstream accounts. He said, “Our history has many great warriors who stood up for their people. Many of these warriors died in their thirties. They are the inspiration behind ‘Ranabaali’.”
He further explained how folk songs and stories kept these memories alive, and how some Indian writers later documented them in books. According to Vijay, the film will showcase not just the heroism of these figures, but also the hardships faced by their communities, societal mistakes, and the eventual British takeover. “Through ‘Ranabaali’, we are bringing to the big screen, for audiences across the world, the greatness of these warriors, the atrocities our ancestors endured, the mistakes we made as a society, and how the British managed to take control of this vast country,” Vijay said.
The actor also highlighted the importance of cultural traditions, such as village deities and jatara festivals, in helping people endure difficult times. The team hopes 'Ranabaali' will spark conversations about India's past and bring these forgotten stories to a wider audience.
