Things are going from bad to worse for Vijay as his highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan finds itself at the center of controversy and setbacks. Even for a star with Vijay’s resilience, the barrage of troubles—piracy, leaks, and official roadblocks has left almost no breathing space.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced lavishly by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan was initially slated for a Sankranthi 2026 release. However, censor issues forced an unexpected delay, derailing the team’s plans. The situation spiraled after large portions of the movie leaked online, and just as cyber police were cracking down, a local cable operator in Coimbatore illegally aired a 21-minute segment, sparking outrage among Vijay's supporters. TVK functionary Mohanapriya, who filed a formal complaint, stated, “We presented evidence and filed a formal complaint. Initially, we were told an FIR would be registered the next morning. However, on Sunday, the police informed us that a separate unit is already handling the leak.”
To shield the producers from further damage, Vijay has reportedly promised to refund part of his remuneration and, if needed, collaborate on another film with KVN Productions in the future. These assurances have provided some relief to the makers, but the air of uncertainty remains thick until the film’s release, now expected in May.
With piracy and distribution issues still looming, fans and the industry are watching closely to see how Vijay and his team navigate these relentless hurdles. All eyes are on the official release, which could determine the next chapter for both the star and his embattled project.
