Vijay’s Jana Nayagan: Not a Full Remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, Says Director

Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan is set to hit theatres on July 23rd, and director H Vinoth has addressed the persistent buzz about its connection to Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Telugu hit, Bhagavanth Kesari. Vinoth clarified that while Jana Nayagan draws inspiration from the Telugu original, it is far from a scene-by-scene remake, offering fans a fresh cinematic experience.

After his acclaimed work on Nerkonda Paarvai, Vinoth was initially hesitant to take up another remake. However, Vijay, who reportedly watched Bhagavanth Kesari multiple times, was captivated by its core themes—especially women empowerment—and encouraged Vinoth to adapt it for the Tamil audience. This collaboration resulted in a film that, according to Vinoth, retains about 50% of the original’s content. He explained, “The first half has nearly 60 percent similarity, while the second half has only 20 percent similarity, with several new episodes and changes made to suit Vijay’s image and the Tamil audience.”

Vinoth emphasized that the adaptation process involved significant rewriting, new characters, and a reimagined emotional arc to fit Vijay’s screen persona. The second half, in particular, promises a distinct narrative compared to the Telugu version. Pooja Hegde, Mamita Baiju, and Bobby Deol join Vijay in pivotal roles, with KVN Productions backing the project. Social media has been abuzz with discussions about the film’s originality and Vijay’s choice to headline a project inspired by a Telugu blockbuster.
