Vijay Sethupathi's upcoming Telugu film, Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road, directed by Puri Jagannadh, finds itself at the center of controversy as it nears release. Puri Jagannadh, who recently faced setbacks with Liger and Double iSmart, is grappling with unresolved financial issues from those projects. The shoot for Slum Dog was completed some time ago, and post-production is reportedly in its final stages, but the makers have yet to announce an official release date.
The situation escalated when Chaitanya Reddy, producer of Hanuman, publicly accused Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur of making false promises before Double iSmart's release. She detailed how her team invested heavily to support the film, only for Puri and Charmme to allegedly backtrack after the film's disappointing performance. "Puri Jagannadh has changed his number and Charmme ignored them," Chaitanya Reddy claimed, adding that her team suffered significant financial losses distributing Double iSmart. Such direct allegations are unprecedented for Puri Jagannadh, even after previous box office failures.
Meanwhile, the production team behind Slum Dog is working to finalize non-theatrical deals and clarify the film's release strategy. Some exhibitors from Liger are also awaiting the release of Slum Dog, hoping it will help resolve outstanding dues through the Film Chamber. As of now, Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur have not publicly addressed these allegations, leaving the film's promotional plans and financial settlements in question.
