Vishal's Makutam Review: Weak Screenplay and Slow Pace Let Down Debut Directorial

Vishal's directorial debut, Makutam, lands in theatres today with a disappointing 2/5 rating from critics. The film, which also stars Anjali and Dushara Vijayan, struggles to rise above its routine template and slow narrative, making it a tough watch for audiences seeking fresh storytelling.

The story follows Krupa (Vishal), a medical representative with a modest income, whose life takes a tragic turn after a family trip to Ooty ends in violence. While Vishal delivers a committed performance, especially in the film's emotional and action-driven moments, the screenplay fails to maintain engagement. Dushara Vijayan impresses in her role as Krupa's wife, and Anjali brings depth to her character, though the overall impact is dulled by predictable plotting.

Technical aspects offer some relief: cinematographer Richard M.
