Key Highlights

  • Yash's Toxic rejected initial ₹150 crore OTT offers, expecting higher bids
  • Film's box office failure led to OTT platforms backing out of deals
  • ZEE5 offered ₹30 crore with only half upfront, rest via pay-per-view
  • Delaying OTT deal resulted in significant financial loss for the team

Yash's latest film, Toxic, has encountered another hurdle after its disappointing theatrical run. Known for his blockbuster success with the KGF franchise, Yash teamed up with director Geetu Mohandas for this gangster action drama, which was produced on a grand scale. Before Toxic hit cinemas, reports indicated that leading OTT platforms had offered as much as ₹150 crore for the film's digital rights. However, Yash and his team reportedly declined these offers, anticipating an even higher deal.

When Toxic finally released in theatres, it failed to connect with audiences and was swiftly labeled a box office washout. This poor reception led many OTT platforms to withdraw their interest in acquiring the film's streaming rights. According to industry reports, ZEE5 later stepped in with a much lower offer of ₹30 crore for the digital rights, a figure that came as a shock to the film's makers. The situation worsened when it emerged that ZEE5's proposal included a condition: only half of the amount would be paid upfront, with the remainder tied to a pay-per-view revenue model.

For a film made with such a high budget, the decision not to finalize an OTT deal before release has proven costly. The delay has resulted in a significant financial loss for the team, highlighting the risks of holding out for bigger deals in a volatile market. As of now, there is no confirmation of a finalized OTT release date for Toxic.
