Chai Shots Faces Scrutiny, Founders Call for Fair Assessment
Digital entertainment platform Chai Shots, the latest offering from Chai Bisket, has sparked a lively debate since its launch as India’s first regional short-series OTT platform. Known for pioneering bite-sized vertical video storytelling, the platform now finds itself at the center of controversy over claims of promoting adult content.
Despite a strong track record in youth-driven digital entertainment, Chai Bisket and its founders, Sharat and Anurag, have been quick to address the backlash. Netizens have taken to social media to express concern over certain thumbnails and alleged themes, but the founders believe these reactions are based on surface impressions. Anurag clarified, “People are only looking at the thumbnails, but there is social messaging inside the shows. They are not watching the full content.”
Sharat further explained that Chai Shots uploads nearly 150 videos every week, but only a handful become widely viewed due to social media algorithms. He stated the aim is to serve a broad audience, offering everything from youthful dramas and thrillers to devotional and horror content. "It is like a multi-cuisine restaurant," Sharat noted, emphasizing the platform’s inclusivity and intent.
With ongoing discussions around content responsibility and digital trends, Chai Shots is expected to continue diversifying its slate and engaging viewers with innovative storytelling in the months ahead.
