Sridevi Family Secures Ownership in Long-Running Madras Land Case
The family of late actress Sridevi has achieved a significant legal triumph regarding a prized property in Chennai's Sholinganallur. The dispute centred around a 2.70-acre land parcel, originally purchased by Sridevi in 1988 and later inherited by her husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
Sridevi, whose legacy continues to influence Indian cinema, had this property challenged by three individuals—MC Sivakami, MC Natarajan, and Chandrabhanu—who claimed to be the rightful heirs. Their civil suit, however, was filed decades after the original sale deed, raising questions about its legitimacy.
Boney Kapoor responded by seeking dismissal of the suit under the Code of Civil Procedure, and the Madras High Court ultimately sided with the Kapoor family. The court strongly stated, "Only to grab the property, with vexatious claim, by abusing the process of law they came forward with the present suit for the relief of partition," as per the official verdict. With the land valued in crores, this outcome has brought a wave of relief and celebration for the family.
With this legal hurdle cleared, fans are eager to see how the Kapoor family will move forward, both in personal matters and their ongoing contributions to the film industry.
