Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan has landed in controversy as villagers from Usilampatti in Madurai district have staged protests, alleging the film misrepresents their village’s name and history. The political action drama, directed by H Vinoth, was already generating buzz for Vijay’s intense role, but now finds itself at the center of a regional uproar.

The villagers of Papapatti and nearby areas expressed their displeasure by displaying black flags outside their homes, signaling their anger at repeated misportrayals of their region in Tamil cinema. They have demanded a public apology from both director H Vinoth and Vijay, along with the removal of scenes they find objectionable. According to reports, “the villagers have made their stand clear, and the team hasn’t responded officially yet.”

Jana Nayagan, produced as a hard-hitting commentary on leadership and democracy, also features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Gautham Menon in pivotal roles. The film had earlier faced certification issues and a pre-release leak, leading to delays. Initially planned for Pongal 2026, the release has now been rescheduled to May 8, 2026.

With the first-look and teaser already igniting fan excitement online, the makers must now navigate these fresh concerns from Madurai locals. As the release date approaches, all eyes are on how the team will address the controversy or if further challenges await Jana Nayagan.
