Andhra Pradesh Railway Expansion: 42 Projects Worth ₹77,855 Crore Sanctioned

Andhra Pradesh’s railway network is set for a significant transformation as 42 railway projects valued at ₹77,855 crore have been sanctioned across the state. This was revealed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Lok Sabha, responding to a question from Ongole MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy about rail connectivity and ongoing projects in Andhra Pradesh.

The sanctioned projects span 4,768 km, comprising 12 new railway lines and 30 multi-tracking or doubling initiatives. Of this, 1,465 km has already been commissioned, with total expenditure reaching ₹27,851 crore by March 2026. The Centre’s allocation for Andhra Pradesh’s railways has seen a dramatic increase, with ₹10,134 crore allotted for 2026-27—more than 11 times the average annual outlay during 2009-14.

Major projects currently underway include the ₹9,889-crore Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam third and fourth lines, ₹6,996-crore Vizianagaram-Titlagarh third line, ₹6,509-crore Vijayawada-Gudur third line, ₹4,692-crore Guntakal-Guntur doubling, and the ₹2,047-crore Errupalem-Amaravati-Namburu new line. In the Ongole region, 280 km of the 287-km Vijayawada-Gudur third line is already operational, and the Tenali-Ongole section now boasts three lines.

The Ministry also highlighted progress on the ₹3,407-crore Nadikude-Srikalahasti new line, with significant land acquisition completed and ₹2,384 crore spent so far. Surveys for 39 additional projects covering 5,648 km have been sanctioned in recent years, indicating further expansion ahead. However, the Railways clarified that completion dates depend on factors such as land acquisition, clearances, and funding.
