Jangaon Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha, who previously led a major land recovery drive in Rajanna Sircilla, is likely to be assigned a significant role in the upcoming inquiry into land holdings around former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) Erravelli farmhouse. This move gains political weight as Jha’s earlier tenure in Sircilla, the home district of K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), saw the district administration identify about 1,400 acres of suspected government land encroachments. According to statements made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the Assembly, cases were filed against seven individuals and around 2,400 acres were reclaimed in Sircilla.
The current Chief Minister has now ordered a 30-day investigation into land surrounding KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelli. He alleged that KCR’s family controls nearly 700 acres in the area, including 295 acres of patta land and 388 acres of government land. Revanth Reddy claimed that the government land was acquired during the 2017 land records “purification” process. He further stated that if the inquiry confirms the 388 acres as government property, the land would be recovered and distributed to 850 Dalit families.
Revanth also alleged in the Assembly that 8,000 acres in Sircilla had been transferred to benamis linked to KCR and his family, though these claims await verification through the official inquiry and legal proceedings.
Jha’s time in Sircilla was marked by controversy, particularly after the demolition of a tea stall displaying KTR’s photograph, which KTR’s supporters highlighted as targeting a BRS loyalist. Jha was transferred from Sircilla in September 2025 following a protocol complaint, but the timing led to speculation about political motives due to the ongoing land recovery actions.
If Sandeep Kumar Jha is formally appointed to the Erravelli land probe, the government will be relying on an officer whose previous efforts in land recovery have already placed him at the center of political debates in Telangana.
